Studying grammar is more important than...

Postby Krisi » Sat Mar 01, 2008 1:11 am

Studying grammar is more important than practicing conversation skills.

Do you agree or disagree?
Why?

^^^^^^^^^

I'm uncertain of this. But, for me it's very important to learn both!
This has been a puzzle for me for a long time. Could you help me with this?

Each language has varying ways on how to arrange words. How can we start constructing a sentence (and begin to talk) if we don't even know when, where and how to start?

Three year old toddler can communicate with others, they never learn grammar. They dont even know what grammar is. However, they know how to say something, at least simple expression.

That's true for a toddler who is just beginning to talk. How about the grown ups (adults) who has a lot of inhibitions in mind... It won't be as easy as that I suppose.
Don't you think it's important to learn the grammatical functions logically (at the same time while practicing conversation)? :|

This is an old adage Uncle B. We always compare ourselves to a toddler when we begin to study a language. If we become impolite in expressing what we want to say is there someone who will have a heart to correct us (just like when we were a toddler). I think, we will just be criticized for it and lost all of our friends. :?

I used to think the same. But now, it's also important for me what I talk and how I talk, in English.
