CERTESL part-time program (options of 250, 310 or 400 academic contact hours), recognized for teaching across Canada; TEFL Intensive Program (four-week intensive and optional grammar workshop=100 hrs) for overseas teaching or Canadian teacher-aide posts.
The TEFL Intensive Program allows 80 hours of transfer credit into the longer distance-delivered CERTESL program. CERTESL is recognized by TESL Canada, TESL Ontario, SCENES (Sask.) and Alberta TESL for professional accreditation needed for employment in most federally-funded adult ESL programs in Canada and/or for positions in Canadian Languages Council member schools. Degree-stream course sections and additional courses are available for people who are in the process of completing a B.A. or B.Ed. or who are Canadian K-12 teachers seeking an increase in their provincial pay grade through TESL specialization. Prior Learning Assessment Recognition (PLAR) service for TESL Ontario and TESL Canada certification candidates whose training has taken place in reputable institutions not recognized by TESL Ontario or TESL Canada. Optional 40-hour course in the teaching of Literacy to ESL learners open to all teachers with at least 80 hours of prior formal training in TESL/TEFL/TEAL or B.Ed. degrees and relevant experience. Academic and PLAR counselling provided free, regardless of eventual enrollment.
