Meaning: If you learn your lesson, you learn something about life from making a mistake.

For example:

  • After being arrested for drunk driving, Charlie said he'd learned his lesson and promised never to drink and drive again.

  • This is the third job Emma's lost for coming in late. You'd think she'd have learned her lesson by now.
