old hat

Meaning: If something is old hat, it's old-fashioned and no longer seen as being modern and new.

For example:

  • When I was a teenager in the 1980's punk and new-wave music was all the rage, but now it seems a bit old hat.

  • Lots of technology that seems new and modern here is already old hat in places like Japan and South Korea.
