prey on your mind

Meaning: If something is preying on your mind, you can't stop thinking about it or worrying about it.

For example:

  • Jimmy can't sleep because he's got a court case coming up and the thought of going to jail is preying on his mind.

  • The president's illness is preying on everybody's mind.
