with flying colours | colors

Meaning: If you pass a test with flying colours, you pass it easily and get high marks.

For example:

  • Our daughter Rosie was really worried about her history exam, but in the end she passed it with flying colours. We're very proud of her.

  • I was given a tough assignment at work this week, and today the boss told me it was really just a test. He also said I passed with flying colors.

Note: "Colours" is British spelling and "colors" is American spelling.
