rub it in Informal

Meaning: If you rub it in, you keep talking about something that embarrasses or upsets someone.

For example:

  • I know I made a silly mistake, but do you have to rub it in by talking about it all the time?

  • We all know that Jenny was stupid to quit her job, but you don't have to rub it in every time you see her.
