The noun "oil" can be both countable and uncountable.


uncountable

Meaning: a thick liquid, such as the dark liquid from underground that's used to make fuel, or a thick liquid that's used for cooking food
Example sentence: Many countries in the Middle East make a lot of money from exporting oil.

countable

Meaning: a particular type of oil
Example sentence: My daughter's a vegetarian, so we have lots of different vegetable oils in our kitchen cupboards.
