knock back (1) Informal

Meaning: to take a drink, usually alcoholic

Synonym: down

For example:

  • knock back sth Every day after work, Steve and his mates knock back a few beers.

  • knock sth back The bartender poured Amy a whisky soda and she knocked it back and asked for another one.
