Meaning: If you let someone down, you disappoint them by not doing what they expect you to do.

Synonym: disappoint

For example:

  • let sb down Louise is very reliable. She always works hard and she's never let us down.

  • let down sb Our goalkeeper was really upset about making the mistake and letting in the goal. He said he'd let down his teammates, his club and the fans.
