Meaning: exaggerated praise for a product or person for promotional purposes

For example:

  • This website is full of articles that are nothing but hype written to promote particular products, mostly music and movies that the website sells.

  • Sometimes hype is presented as objective journalism, so you need to be wary.

Note: Can also be used as a verb, as in "This magazine is full of articles written solely in order to hype particular products."
