Meaning: cheeky or disrespectful speech

For example:

  • Kyle got sent off for giving lip to an official. If he wants to stay on the basketball team, he'll have to learn to keep his mouth shut.

  • I got a lot more lip from my students in America than I do from my students here in Japan. Kids here really respect their teachers.
