Meaning: very bad, of very poor quality

For example:

  • We saw a really lousy movie last night. It was a total waste of time.

  • I felt lousy all morning, but after lunch I felt a bit better.

Origin: figurative use of the word "lousy", the literal meaning of which is "infested with lice"
