deadbeat

Meaning: a dull, lazy, unreliable person

For example:

  • Why do you want to hang around with those deadbeats down at the snooker hall? They're just wasting their lives.

  • Most people who use drugs end up being deadbeats who just get high and lie around for hours doing nothing.

Note: part of the common collocation "deadbeat dad" meaning a father who refuses to pay child support
