Meaning: an attempt, a try, a turn

For example:

  • When we play darts, Jimmy often forgets whose turn it is to throw. He says, "Whose shot is it? Is it mine?"

  • After boxing for nearly ten years, Larry finally got a shot at the world title. Now he's the Middleweight Champion of the World.
