Can someone please explain the grammar in the following two sentences:

I arranged for her to have violin lessons.
There were a lot of people waiting outside.

For the first sentence, it makes more sense if you say I made arrangements for her to have violin lessons or i drew/made a schedule for her violin lessons.
In the second sentence, there is no grammatical correct. you can also rewrite it as " there were a lot of people that were waiting outside. But your sentence is better because it is shorter and more concise.

For the second sentence, it is best to say " A lot of people were waiting outside".
