the least

hello everybody

the other day in class I came across this:
'I have the least money of us all.'

It sounded utterly strange to my ears, that usually don't let me down, but I still am pretty unsure. I know 'the least' as an adverb of course. But as a normal adjective?

What are your thoughts?

I had the chance to ask a colleague, who's a native speaker. She told me it's absolutely ok to say that.
