Hi Susan,
It means your succesful marketing strategies for your product in Europe may not be any good in Japan.Because Japanese consumers' buying behaviour is not the same as Europeans e.g Japanese pay attention on design, colour and packaging more than Europeans.
I hope this will explain it.
Cheers

1)an awareness of how much culture affects language acquisition and behavior.
2)the discernment not to interpret the behavior of others through the eyes of their own culture.
3)insight into their own culture.
4) the tools to "unlock" cultural puzzles.

www, seems like the answers are more difficult to follow for a learner of a second language, than the original sentence. Although the poster said he/she got it, I'll try a simpler explanation for those who may not have understood the above answers... Just in case..
What works in one market simply doesn't necessarily work in another

As simply as I can put it and keep the meaning...

What works = (something that is successful)
in one market = (in a place or situation)
simply doesn't necessarily = (might or might not)
work in another(market) = (be successful in a different place or situation)

Something that is successful in one place or situation, might or might not be successful in a different place or situation.

That's my take on it... hope that helps
