Approximately 1,000 people have died in a mountainous region of northern India over the past week due to flash floods caused by early monsoon rains. Homes and roads were washed away, and communication was cut off. The high terrain has made it difficult to reach the survivors, though 80,000 people have been safely evacuated. Drones and makeshift bridges were used to locate and rescue some of the survivors in remote areas.
