Canadian Teen Beats Tennis Legend to Win US Open

On September 7, 19-year-old Bianca Andreescu became the first tennis player to win a Grand Slam singles title. Andreescu beat legend Serena Williams in two straight sets to win the US Open . Before this season, Andreescu was practically an unknown. She did not even qualify for last year’s US Open. Three years ago, the young tennis player wrote a pretend cheque to herself for winning the US Open. On Sunday, she her real prize money of over five million Canadian dollars. Andreescu’s win is being celebrated as one of Canada’s most historic wins.
