I once saw a Ted talk which talked about success and happiness. Many people think in order to be happy, you need to be successful. But it's actually the other way around. Once we are happy, then we can have success. Otherwise we just keep pushing "happiness" further and further away.

I teach in Asia, and I think the schools do a poor job of teaching languages. Like you said, it's boring, and it teaches you not to make mistakes and just to get high scores on tests. But in the "real" world, the best way to learn and grow is to make mistakes. All I can say is good luck on your lear...

I would say, just repetition, repetition, repetition...BUT....make it your own, and make it fun. This means you should develop your own learning style, and try to incorporate phrasal verbs into your daily life...maybe practice speaking to a native speaker, or read and study materials that you are in...
