English Speaking

Post by gooluyo »

Hey guys!! I wonder if it is possible to speak as fluently as native speakers just by watching videos like that on YouTube?

Like all language learning it's not all or nothing. It's not black or white.

So, no, you can't learn to speak fluently JUST by watching videos. But watching videos will certainly help you.

I think it depends where you're at. If you already "know" all the theory, grammar points and the only thing lacking is that your accent doesn't sound native then I think yes.

Yes it is possible to get your accent closer, maybe even matching those of the people you are watching. However I think you would progress much faster by imitating as well as just listening. That way your brain gets used to making those noises.

Thanks a lot for your advice! Could you please tell me what other ways can I do for better pronunciation?
Thank you again!!

Thank you for helping me analyse the situation. {-: I think I am almost at the level which you said...so your suggestions really remind me..
By the way, do you have any ideas about what kind of videos are better for me? TED talks, speeches or comedies?

Whatever you find interesting and is useful for you learning the language. E.g if you are learning it for business then things like TED talks, News, finance reports etc are great. If you want to get better with general socializing then maybe sitcom's and movies might help more with that sort of thing. With my language studies I try to keep it varied!
