:P Hello! all
I live in Vietnam, a small country is in South- east Asian , our country was invaded by China, Japan,French, U.S a long time , so our culture, traditions...have been more and less influenced , however, we also have our own language, culture and traditions I like to introduce Vietnam to you
Vietnam is the main language and Ao dai is Vietnamese traditional dress and it is also considered as symbol of Vietnamese woman ,Ao Dai makes the body beauty of woman set off , we usually wear Ao dai in important occasions such as wedding ceremony, tet holiday,meetings... and Ao Dai is chosen as unifrom in highschool, big companies , Vietnam Airlines
Tet is the most important holidays in Vietnam, it is on January 1 of the lunar calendar, before Tet is about one week, exciting atmosphere covers everywhere, everybody seems hurrier, houses are decorated, housewives prepare special foods to serve Tet...and flower markets are special feature in Vietnam, they are opened at a lot of places but the most beautiful and largest flower market is Nguyen Hue in HoChiMinh City , a lot of beautiful and rare flowers are brought to Nguyen Hue Flower market to decorate and sell. On New year' Eve, almost members in family get together and have a large dinner with Vietnamese traditional dishes such as "thit kho hot vit, gio heo ham mang, mien xao"......At midnight, firework explore everywhere, Vietnamese families offer food to dead ancestors and members in family gather beside the place of worship to relate ancestor memories and it is the most remarkable time of the year, after that many people go to pagoda. The first day of new year ( Lunar Calendar )everybody get up early and have "banh tet" or " banh chung " for breakfast ( Vietnamese traditional cakes for Tet Holiday ) , after breakfast, the oldest person in family give lucky money to his children. tet holidays last 4 days, from December 31 to January 3 in new year

I have been fascinated by Shari since I've watched an Indian movie in middle school. It is mysterical, elegant, bashful and mopish. Is it a custom that woman have to wear whatever what age and where they are? Any religion related? Same before marriage and after? What's the current situation. Oh... I am eager to know more. Can you share with me...?

RedRose wrote:in china, the traditional costume of woman is QiPao, which is a kind of simple skirt without sleeves. newadays, you can see this kind of costume in lots of beauty contests. why do women in beauty contests love QiPao? I guess, that is just because QiPao can make women look great and attractive. If a woman is in a great shape, then QiPao is very suitable to her, but if a woman are overweight, then QiPao will make her look terrible! many chinese girls wear red QiPao at the day when they get married, oh, the red QiPao will make her look outstanding among people.

Add more to Rose, In China

1) Cheong-sam is our traditional clothes. It is evolved from royal dress in Qing dynasty, represents the nobleness and honor. People usually wear in ceremonious activity or luxurious hotel, entertainment place.

2) There are major kind of food:

--- SiQuang food is the most popular in China, sign dishes: DongBoZuoZi (stew pig front foot), HuiGuoRou (pork fry pepper), ShuiZhuNiuRou (water cook beef). Over 90% SiQuang food are spicy, among 50% are torpid spicy. Wherever you go in China you can see SiQuang food.

--- East-Northern food is the second, sign dishes: DongBeiLaPi, JiangGuJia, JingJiangRouSi. Wow very hard to translate to English. I probably need go to book shop to search their name. Or Rose can you help me. It is a little bit hot, suits for public favor. I like it very much.

--- HuNan food should be the third popular, sign dishes: DouJiaoRuTou, LaRouQingJiao, It's pure hot, if you are not use to eat. Don't have it. I remember once my friend took me to a HuNan restaurant and order DouJiaoRuTou, I tasted a little bit, quite delicious, then I feel my mouth is burning, have to run for beer..... Since that I never dare to try one more time.

--- GuangDong food will be the fourth, sign dishes: BaiCheJi, Stew Fish, BaiChuo Shrimp, Usually it's not spicy food. Many people from outside of GongDong, they are not using to have it.

3) As to building, the palace, SiHe Garden, Mongolia Bao are the traditional architecture of China. No special feature from other public house. Now people is chasing for modern, comfortable villa, sky-building. The traditional art is disappearing little by little years gone by.

4) I cannot say shuttle bus is one of traditional culture. But does it bicycle. China is the biggest bicycle country, several years ago, seems everyone young guy has a bicycle in city.

Begonia, you deserve a nickname: epicure! no wonder that you are from GuangDong China, wow! that is why people say that every person of GuangDong is an epithet! you are proficient at Chinese Food! just read your descriptions about Chinese food, I can't help dribbling!

as far as you mentioned CheongSam, it inspirited my dream: dressing CheongSam someday! but my shape...sadly, in chinese people's opinions, especially,in GuangDong, I look kinda overweight  (53kg,160cm). ok, girl, I shall manage to lose some weights so that I can achieve my dream someday! I guess you are in a great shape, right? because GuangDong's people are mostly slim! and I guess you belong to the majority.

Thanks Rose.

Reading your description here. I am surprised to know we are so similar. We are both in GD, 160cm, like movies...53kg is slim, still within standard. Just the model wearing cheong-sam misslead you though you are overweight... Hope someday we can wear cheong-sam together if you don't mind. I am 50.5kg.

Hi Lilian!

My name is Francisco. I'm 27 years old and I'm from Brazil.
Here in Brazil there are two passions: football (of course) and carnival. But there are others things in Brazilian culture too, like
local and indian dances, literature festival, arts, etc.
Here we like going to the beach on holidays very much.
Our beaches in northeast are very beatiful. One of the most meal eaten here is pizza (especially in São Paulo city).
Tell me about your country too. I'd like it a lot.

Best wishes.
