Thank you so much for telling us about haiku. It's so interesting!

And your students' haiku(s) are really cool! ;)

[quote="pinkfloyd76"]I like poetry but I don’t like it when overpathetic and too difficult to understand. That’s why when I was teaching younger learners I used to make one lesson for writing poetry by them.

:R: I partly agree on this.I realize that poetry is a difficult code and it therefore requires a lot of teaching for the pupils to manage it. At the same time i think that our pupils needs to understand poetic language so i find your lessons on hiku really good also because as a student i learned a lot about english language through great poets and particularly through shakespeare.

the wittiest to me are:

The birds are flying
Above sea and white mountains
I want to be free

I am beautiful
You are also beautiful
We are beautiful

Beautiful Martin
Ugly and stupid Patrick
Who is better?

I haven’t two teeth
I go to the dentist
He will put in my teeth

When you are thinking
Don’t talk too much because you
Won’t think up nothing

I was in the club
I was singing loud
Because I was drunk

I’m Microsoft head
I won’t go down with this ship
I love my cheating

I am a car thief
I won’t go down with this ~
I hate the police

ok, due to your direction, I will compose a poem.

I am

I am a woman,
a Chinese woman,
I would like to watch TV.

I am not a man,
I am a woman,
I love eating delicious food.

Don't doubt the truth ---
I am a woman
I love both of men and women
what is wrong with that?

I don't know the nicest proofs,
By which I can prove I am a woman
I even don't know I am a woman or a man!

a woman or a man?
which one is better?
woman? man?

Whatever!

i had my 14 years old pupils have a try at this:

"Autumn" di Emily Dickinson

Autumn

The morns are meeker than they were,
The nuts are getting brown;
The berry's cheek is plumper,
The rose is out of town.

The maple wears a gayer scarf,
The field a scarlet gown.
Lest I should be old-fashioned,
I'll put a trinket on.

we had comprehension activities first the had a closer look at the words related to nature ( they study science of nature in the same curriculum) , we traslated it into italian.

another day i presented them with pictures of all varieties of acer trees and showed them the acer leeves. we found out other varieties of trees and talked about woods of Canada and of north of USA.

we talked about maple syrup that is produced out of maple nymph.

A student made a study about Massachussetts from a multimedia encyclopedia and presented it to the class in italian language
