A very philosophic topic !
The endless matter in life "WHO AM I"
If I'm aware of "who am I", i would not wonder if my now presence. When the "I" appears, there are so many complex matters ceaselessly following. That's the reason why Buddhists try to get rid of the "I" for obtaining a calm mind beyond the existence of reality.

your poem reminded me ,one of the Alabaster reid's poems named " curiousity "...

You have dared to ask one of those odd questions ...

Nevertheless, to be curious
is dangerous enough. To distrust
what is always said, what seems
to ask odd questions, interfere in dreams,
leave home, smell rats, have hunches
do not endear cats to those doggy circles
