Using 'Anything'

Post by McKinney »

Hi everyone,

Can anyone tell me why I can't say "I didn't sleep anything last night"? I can't find why it's wrong.

Thanks!

Anything is a pronoun. What does it mean in your sentence? It has no meaning here.

What you could say is:
I didn't sleep one second last night.
I didn't sleep one iota last night.
I didn't sleep at all last night.
I didn't sleep well last night.
