LOL is short for "Laugh Out Loud" ;) It means you're laughing :D Another example would be LMAO, which means "Laughing my ass off". Of course this one's more colloquial :D

While I do not approve of the trend, it is clear that it is here for now. Here's some other common abbreviations being used in forums:

FAQ(s) - Frequently Asked Question(s)

FUD - Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt (not only a forum abbreviation)

FWIW - For What It's Worth

FYI - For Your Information

HTH - Hope This Helps (or Helped)

IIRC - If I Recall Correctly

IANAL - I Am Not A Lawyer

IME - In My Experience

IMHO - In My Humble Opinion

IMNSHO - In My Not So Humble Opinion

IMO - In My Opinion

IOW - In Other Words

LOL - Laughing Out Loud

OT - Off Topic

OTOH - On The Other Hand

PITA - Pain In The A***

ROFL - Rolling On the Floor Laughing

RTFM - Read The [Flipping] Manual

TBH - To Be Honest

TIC - Tongue In Cheek

WFM - Works For Me

WRT - With Respect To
