Please let me try to explain the phrase"trade off" in English:
Trade sth off means that you want to give up and exchange one thing for another as a compromise.

It means conceding something in return for the other person making a concession too. This can apply to actual objects or a point of view.
Examples: I will concede that Hitler was an evil man if you concede that Stalin was evil too.
I will agree that a Ford make a better car than Jaguar if you agree that Jaguar is a prettier car.
I will forget the money you owe me if you forget the work you did for me.
