a strange sentence

Post by lemontea »

I've posted something about this before..
but... I want more replies..
----------------------------------------
"10 dollars each; one dollar off if you buy two."

I think it should be 19 dollars.
But my teacher told me it would be 18 dollars!
I couldn't believe it...
She told me she had asked some foreigners about that, and they said it should be 18 dollars...
----------------------------------------
So.. I want to know your(native speakers') idea.
Will it be 18 or 19?

I think it should be 19 :? Although maybe it's one dollar off each one so that would be 18

I'm a native speaker and here's my opinion:

The sentence is vague and at first glance, I immediately thought 19. If it was intended for 18, then they should have elaborated a little more.
