:P The other day I had an examination related to the culture of Britain.There is a question as follows:If a lady twirls her fan in her left hand in front of a gentleman ,what does she mean?This is a question about the strict morals in Victorial Times.Can you give me an answer?Thank you.

Sorry for the delay. I have only just spotted your question.
In Victorian times fans were used to convey codes. The instance you speak about is a warning. It just means "be careful we are being watched" If they were to touch a half opened fan to their lips, the lady was showing that she would accept a kiss from the Gentleman.
