I don't understand the question. The words have two vastly different meanings, your dictionary will tell you.
You can join both words to make a sentence such as "the function of the spring is to close a gate" or you could say "the springs function is to keep the rope tight"
Alternatively if the Spring is used to describe a source of water, you could say "The function of the spring is to provide a clean source of water"
Then again, the word 'spring' has other meanings as does 'function' .
