Difficult to explain. What the person making the statement is saying is. "We failed in becoming ladylike (genteel) but this is better than our life being the same as permenantly in a Finishing School"kuyingsha wrote: ² 18. What’s the meaning of the sentence :

A Finishing School is where rich people and aristocrats send their daughters to learn how to act in polite society and be elegant. For some reason these schools seem to be mainly fashionably located in Switzerland and sometimes France. Young Ladies go there about the age of 17+.
