Pronunciation/phonetic chart for American English

Post by Mori »

I'm an English learner and practice American English. I'm looking for
a pronunciation/phonetic chart for American English to download.
Similar ones for British English can be downloaded through the
following links:

http://www.britishcouncil.org.hk/video/ ... British_Co...

http://www.macmillanenglish.com/methodo ... -chart.htm

Please guide me.

Hi,

Just out of curiosity; what exactly is the difference between the American English and English English phonetic charts? I know that some words are pronounced differently, but in essence the variety of sounds are the same aren't they?

regards,

Namnack

The University of Arizona has a website with IPA charts for the sounds of Standard English.
There are also some transcription exercises on the site.

Sometimes I use the IPA charts from Antimoon because they have audio files for the British and NAE vowel sounds.

These vowel charts from the University of Washington are also useful.
