A type is to class as a monkey is to mammals
A monkey is a type of mammal and mammals are a class of animal
However, monkeys can be a class as well, in that case a chimpanzee is a type of monkey. And considering the fact that there are several different types of chimpanzee, even chimpanzee can be considered a class in itself.
