hi vadon - that's a strange use of the word 'filter'. there is a word in english, 'pilfer',
which means 'to steal'.
anyway, what he seems to be saying is that to steal that person's name is to steal something worthless.

Thanks for your help... but i think this is not the case.
The sentence is from the movie "Tit For Tat" - Laurel & Hardy.
Here is their dialogue:
Oliver: "Never let it be said that a Hardy's spotless reputation should be so maliciously trodden upon."
Stanley: "You're right, Ollie. He who filters your good name, steals trash."
Maybe Stan uses wrong word?
