Confusing sentence..

Please help me to explain this sentence:

Neil also took issue with Wade's characterization of Murdoch as someone who was not terribly interested in what was in the Sun or other tabloids beyond their entertainment news.

Take issue with = disagree with (is that right?)

But I don't understand with the the phrase 'Wade's characterization of Murdoch'
'Someone' in the sentence is Murdoch, right?
'beyond' = more than (?)

Can you make the sentence above easier to understand?

Wade stated that their friend Murdoch wasn't much interested in Sun or other tabloids.
Neil completely disagreed with Wade and had a go at him. (Neil had issue with Wade.)
More precisely he took issue with Wade's statement.

to take issue with something ~ to disagree strongly

Why Wade's statement was so important that Neil made an issue of Wade's telling his opinion about Murdoch was being not interested in tabloids, I am not sure.

The point could be in the last part of the sentence

..beyond their entertainment news.

Maybe the sentence means something like: Neil did not agree with Wade, who had described Murdoch as a person who was mostly interested only in the tabloids' entertainment news.
