why their?

Post by Tukanja » Sat Jan 23, 2010 11:30 pm

bathtub ~ a long plastic, metal or ceramic container which is filled with water so that a person can sit or lie in it to wash their whole body.

Does in this sentence the their mean his, her, its?

is it idea?, to tell it short?

Thanks

It is too long to say "his or her," so many people today say "their," Many years ago, "his" meant "his or her." But today many people do not wish to use "his" to refer to both males and females.
