Hi friends.
I saw a quotation in englishclub.com pages.
"I never read a book before reviewing it. It prejudices a man so." Sydney Smith

What does that really mean?
Before reading a book, is he reviewing it or not?
Thank you and have a good day.

An interesting quote! On the surface it seems to not make sense. Because it appeared in a section titled “funny quotes” I believe it is meant to be funny. The speaker is saying that he does not read a book before he writes a review on it. He is saying that reading the book first would influence his opinion of it. It suggests a person who wants to hold onto his own opinions despite any evidence otherwise. This person recognizes and admits to this. Not the kind of review I would want to read. I hope this is helpful.
