Could anyone help me to change it into academic style or fix any existed grammartical error ??

The first paragraph in this article explains the process of photosynthesis which means plants capture the sun's energy and use it to convert inorganic compounds into organic compounds.

About "by which",I should use what key word to find its usage,because I am not familiar with relative clause.
