In the same way as "n." against a word in a dictionary means "noun", "v." means "verb", "adj" means "adjective" etc. can anyone tell me what "sth." means when found after a word ?

Usually sth = something and sby = somebody, as in:

give sth to sby (give the cards to the man)
deal sby sth (deal John a bad hand)

You may sometimes see other abbreviations:
sthg (something)
so (someone)

In some dictionaries you will find [C] or as well.

It means countable, uncountable noun.

such as

vision [C]

and

tunnel vision .
