denigrate oneself?

Can 'denigrate' be used for thinking lowly of oneself. Or should it be used for thinking lowly of other people?

For example, "He denigrates himself because he is suffering from an inferiority complex."

If 'denigrate' is not the correct word, could you please tell what word should I use?

Many thanks,

Warmest regards

Miss Tam

It is possible to "denigrate oneself", so your sentence is perfectly acceptable:

He denigrates himself because he is suffering from an inferiority complex.
