would/will

Postby Georgiev » Sun Dec 29, 2013 11:29 pm

hello,everyone
Guys, could you help me understand the difference in usage of would and will in a definite sententece ?
Example:
He knew his mind WOULD never again be free to romp like the mind of God?

Why should we use WOULD there?why not will?

He knew his mind WOULD never again...
He knows his mind WILL never again...

Usage of Would
"We are not wholly bad or good, who live our lives under Milk Wood"
prayer of the Reverend Eli Jenkins in Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas
