She was said to have agreed to the dare for a cheap bottle of cava, although one reveller claimed afterwards she was told she would win a holiday for " taking part " - only to find out her prize was a cocktail called ‘Holiday.’

i am confused the meaning of the above sentence. Does " taking part " on the above sentence mean "accept the dare " and the meaning of " taking part - only to find out her prize was a cocktail called ‘Holiday.’ " that she accepted the dare but she only received the prize was cocktail called holiday ??????

You have the correct understanding of "taking part"

She accepted the dare and was "taking part" or was part of the dare.

Because she was part of the dare she won a drink called "Holiday"
