One of the two buses which was ferrying a group of tourists hit a road kerb, and crashed into a car.

Is 'was' the correct verb?

The verb is "be", and "was" is the past tense singular. Perhaps you want "were":

One of the two buses that were ferrying a group of tourists hit a road kerb and crashed into a car.
