Was going to or would?

Post by Scorpioma » Wed Oct 09, 2019 7:29 pm

Hey! I need help. I'm not entirely sure which forum I should use.

My first thought when I woke up this morning was that I would see my friends.
Or
Should it be I was going to see my friends?

Thank you in advance!

I assume you mean: Should it be...

My first thought when I woke up this morning was that I would see my friends.
...or...
My first thought when I woke up this morning was that I was going to see my friends.
?

If so, the answer is that both are possible and grammatically correct, with "was going to" being perhaps a bit more idiomatic (depending on your very precise context).

The word "would" might work better in a sentence such as:

My first hope when I woke up this morning was that I would see my friends.
