so far tested vs tested

Two flights to Japan have already landed in Tokyo. Three passengers have so far tested positive for the virus, Japanese media report

what's the difference between so far tested and tested
pls help!

"so far" means "until now" or "up to this point in time". Strictly speaking there is no difference because use of the present perfect tense implies "until now". However, it does emphasize that the writer expects that more passengers will test positive in the future.
