push sth move back

Post by DavidDe » Fri Apr 10, 2020 10:57 pm

Can you help me to find a single verb or phrasal verb to mean the following?
to push sth/sb to move back
Like the way Japan sumo wrestlers do against their opponents in the ring.

Thank you

I've really got excited by your exact answers specially the followings:

drive something back
drive something off

But one more question:
Are those verbs also applicable in non-physical situations where conceptual influences/forces involve not physical forces as in the following sentences (my examples):

His greed for power drove hers off/back (=dominated hers).

He has extrovert type of personality however when it comes to personal limitations, his small introvert part of his personality tends to drive the opposing extrovert part back.
