back a car??

Post by Boogeyman »

Hi, how are you doing?

My English is not so great , and I need your help.

I'm trying to create subtitle the first Jomanji movie (1995) for learning, and I have a question.

There is a scene that Alan (Robin Williams) tells that his dad let him drive in the past.

But I'm not sure I understood.

"My dad used to let me back the car down the driveway."

Does that mean that his dad let him drive in reverse gear, Or did let him drive forward the car?

And does the word "driveway" mean parking or just a roadway to the house?

Sorry for my English.

Thank you very much!

I think it's his dad letting him drive backwards. I'm not quite sure on the wide road or in the way to his garage :prof:

I agree with AKidFromSG.

"to back a car" means to drive it in reverse

"driveway" is a short private road from the public road up to a house, could be 10 metres, could be 100 metres - depends how fancy your house is
