Taking care of number one is not selfish - it is a form of self-respect.

What do YOU think?

English checker:
number one (noun): oneself (you are number one for you, I am number one for me)
selfish (adjective): having no consideration for other people; egotistical
self-respect (noun): pride and confidence in oneself; a feeling of behaving honourably, with dignity

For me, "Taking care of number one is not selfish" Yes, that's right when everyone has thought of it as the first priority. It isn't wrong in every way. {-;
