Singular/plural

Post by Rustamsher »

1. How many of you want to be a doctor?
2. How many of you want to be doctors?

My teacher said
...needn't 'a doctor' be 'doctors' since a sense of plurality is expressed by 'How many'?

As far as I know, a doctor/doctors are complement in the sentence. Should they be compatible
with the subject of the sentence? Are both of the sentences correct?

Thanks..

Although both are structurally possible, #2 is more natural in this particular case.
